DANGRpack / THE SYSTEM EXPLAINED

Know your setup.
Bring the good times.

A component overview and preparation checklist for experienced homebrewers.

DANGRpack is a DIY prototype in development. This guide explains the system concept. Use the instructions for your exact keg, cylinder, regulator and fittings for assembly and operation.

01 / FOLLOW THE FLOW

Gas in. Good times out.

System diagram: a CO2 cylinder feeds a regulator, gas line and GAS IN disconnect into the keg headspace. Beverage travels from the bottom of the keg up the dip tube, through LIQUID OUT, the beverage line and the tap. A separate pressure relief valve is shown on the keg lid.

Gas: cylinder → regulator → gas line → GAS IN → keg headspace.

Drink: dip tube → LIQUID OUT → beverage line → tap.

02 / WHAT EACH PART DOES

A small system.
A few important connections.

01

Keg & relief valve

A refillable beverage keg with separate gas and liquid posts, a dip tube and a pressure relief valve. Identify posts by their markings and documentation, not colour alone.

02

CO2 & regulator

Use beverage-grade CO2 and a regulator matched to the exact cylinder valve. A gauge range is not a safe working-pressure specification for the whole setup.

03

Gas connection

The regulated gas line connects to GAS IN. Match tubing size, fittings and pressure ratings. Use the backflow protection specified by the equipment manufacturer.

04

Beverage connection

The dip tube feeds LIQUID OUT, then food-contact beverage tubing and the tap. Line dimensions and serving pressure need to suit the beverage and the complete system.

05

Backpack & retention

The bag carries the setup. Verify clearances, retention, access to controls and the loaded weight. The soft bag is not a pressure vessel or a substitute for component protection.

06

Cleaning equipment

Use cleaners and sanitizers approved for the keg, seals, lines and tap. Keep the chemical labels and component manuals with your setup.

03 / PREPARATION & CARE

Before the first pour.

For people already familiar with pressurized keg systems.
  1. Identify and inspect.

Record the exact models, connection types and working-pressure limits. Inspect the keg, seals, posts, relief valve, cylinder, regulator and lines. Replace damaged parts before use; follow each manufacturer’s inspection procedure.

  2. Clean, then sanitize.

Clean the keg and every beverage-contact part, including the dip tube, disconnect, line and tap. Rinse cleaning chemicals as directed, then sanitize according to the sanitizer label. Use the specified dilution, contact time and protective equipment. Never mix cleaning chemicals.

  3. Assemble and check on the bench.

Follow the exact component manuals for connection order, valve positions and leak testing. Confirm GAS IN and LIQUID OUT before connecting. Use only compatible, rated parts. Stop if a connection leaks or the pressure behaves unexpectedly.

  4. Set up for serving.

Chill the beverage as appropriate and balance the serving setup for its temperature, carbonation and line configuration. Stay within every component’s working-pressure limit. Secure the cylinder upright, protect valves and keep CO2 equipment in a well-ventilated area.

  5. Shut down before opening.

Follow the manufacturer’s shutdown sequence. Isolate the gas supply and fully depressurize the keg before opening its lid or servicing parts. Turning off the gas does not remove pressure already in the keg.

  6. Clean up and record the setup.

Clean promptly after use, inspect seals and tubing, and store components as their manuals specify. Record the parts and settings used so that changes can be checked before the next session.

General draught-system reference: Brewers Association, Draught Beer Quality Manual ↗. The checklist is a preparation framework, not a validated operating procedure for the pictured prototype.

04 / FIT FIRST

Litres are only
part of the story.

We are considering nominal 6 L and 10 L kegs as well as 1.5 U.S. gallon (about 5.7 L) and 2.5 U.S. gallon (about 9.5 L) alternatives. These are candidate sizes, not approved compatibility claims.

What still needs measuring

  • Keg diameter and total height, including posts and handles.
  • Extra height for connected disconnects and hose bends.
  • Cylinder, regulator and protective clearance.
  • Bag opening, interior space and access to shutoff controls.
  • Retention and total loaded weight, with the actual beverage.

Exact parts, serving settings and carry instructions will follow fit verification and testing. DANGRpack is not available to order.
